Big Bass Fishin

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Big Bass Fishin is one of those games I opened expecting five minutes and closed forty minutes later. The core loop is simple: pick a spot, cast your line, and read the water for the moment a fish takes the bait. What makes it click is the timing. You feel the tension build, and the little pull on the line before you set the hook is genuinely satisfying on a touchscreen.

Controls are built entirely around swipes and taps, and they got the weight right. Casting is a flick, reeling is a steady tap-and-hold that speeds up as you learn to feel the resistance. There's a real rhythm to fighting a bigger catch, easing off when the line strains and pulling in when it slack. It never felt fiddly, which is rare for this kind of game.

Between trips you can swap lures, adjust your rod, and unlock new stretches of water, each with its own mood. I found myself returning to a foggy morning lake just because I liked how it looked. It's a calm, low-stress game that respects short sessions, and I appreciated that it never nagged me to come back.
